ACL Injury Prevention & Rehabilitation

ACL Prevention and Rehabilitation from Paramus Orthopedic Physical Therapy

What’s this?

Did you know that over 70% of all ACL knee injuries are non-contact injuries that could have been prevented? Most ACL injuries are caused by subtle deficits in form. By re-training and correcting faulty movement patterns, in addition to physical therapy for any existing injuries, our Doctors of Physical Therapy can greatly reduce your risk for injury or re-injury.

Here’s a bit more on ACL injuries and the importance of preventive care and proper form. Our Doctors of Physical Therapy are licensed experts with Doctoral-level education in the human body, and most are also board certified in Sports or Orthopedics. They are excited to guide you to success!

Who can benefit from ACL Injury Rehabilitation?

  • Youth, high school, collegiate, and professional athletes
  • High school athletes are at a crucial point in their athletic careers and development where it’s essential to develop proper form and correct inconsistencies, so they can stay in the game injury-free
  • Female athletes of all ages and levels — they’re two to eight times more likely to tear an ACL than male athletes
  • Any athlete whose sport requires deceleration, cutting or jumping — since these are the motions most commonly associated with ACL injuries

What should I expect?

Your Doctor of Physical Therapy will perform a comprehensive 6-Step Movement Test, identifying and analyzing 35 at-risk combinations of movements. We are the only practice on the entire East Coast to be trained in this assessment tool by Dr. Chris Powers, PhD, PT, FAPTA from the University of Southern California, a pioneer and worldwide leading researcher in lower extremity mechanics who works with professional and collegiate athletes. Your one-on-one, individualized treatment program may include:

  • Sport-specific movement re-training
  • Targeted muscle strengthening and stretching to correct imbalances and weakness
  • DPT-supervised plyometrics to enhance speed, power, and quickness
  • Corrective core, abdominal, knee, and ankle coordination training
  • Hands-on care for any existing injuries
