HAVE YOU HEARD? Our Metabolic Rehabilitation program (physical therapy for people with diabetes) lowered Susan’s glucose levels by 40 points in 4 weeks!

When Susan first found out she had diabetes, she was afraid that her only option was to be on medication for the rest of her life. But then she found another option: The New Jersey Center of Physical Therapy!
NJCPT’s Metabolic Rehabilitation program is for anyone who has diabetes or pre-diabetes. We help patients, just like Susan, manage their diabetes without medication. In some cases, we can even help patients remove the need for diabetes medication entirely! With a scientifically proven combination of exercises specifically customized to your body and its needs, our doctors of physical therapy can lower patients’ glucose levels and prevent or improve any complications.
The choice seemed a simple one for Susan. She took an active role in her physical therapy, under Dr. Frank Benedetto’s constant supervision and counsel. And within only four weeks, Susan’s glucose levels had dropped an amazing 40 points! That is comparable to the effects of glucose medication in most patients, and Susan accomplished it the all-natural way. Following Dr. Benedetto’s guidance on diet and lifestyle, she made his specialized exercise program a part of her daily life and continues to achieve amazing results.
Susan’s story seems incredible, but she’s living proof that physical therapy can help you achieve great success in diabetes management! You, too, can lower your glucose levels, lower your risk for diabetes-related complications, and achieve a new lease on life! Results may vary from person to person, but we’ll work our hardest to help you achieve your personal goals. Call us at 973-248-8111 to get started today!

December 2010 – NJCPT helps to find homes for even more shelter animals!
The year 2010 marks a record-breaking year for our Adopt-A-Pet Program, with eight wonderful patients welcoming needy shelter animals into their lives and families. As you may already know, we will contribute a sizable amount towards pet adoption fees for any past or current patients who would like to adopt their new pet from an animal shelter or rescue site.
We’d love to share the joy that our generous patients have shared with us. Here are two more Adopt-A-Pet success stories!
First, Christine and Chris fell in love with a little puppy named Zoe:
Dear NJCPT,
We came across a cute little puppy on Petfinder.com that had been abandoned with her three sisters. After looking at her picture all week, we decided to “go see” her in person at a local adoption day. Needless to say, Zoe came home with us that afternoon. She is a 10-week-old Labrador / Shar Pei mix who never stops wagging her tail! Thank you so much for having an Adopt-A-Pet program.

Another patient, Jackie, found a friend when she needed it most:

subject Buddy’s Adoption
Hi,
This is my dog, Buddy. I want to thank New Jersey Center of Physical Therapy for helping with getting Buddy. I rescued him from a killer shelter in Virginia in July when he was 3 months old, he is now 8 months. He was brought up here to a foster home who took very good care of him and his 4 brothers, they named them after the Cartwright brothers! Buddy is a mix of shepherd and who knows, maybe lab or setter. Buddy is one of the smartest dogs I have had, and sooo loving. He filled a hole in my heart I had from losing my dog Vito. I am proud to be his “mom”.
Again, thanks does not even begin to say how much it meant to me for all your help.
Sincerely,
Jackie
If you are looking for a new pet, especially during the holiday season, please consider taking advantage of our Adopt-A-Pet program and making the holidays brighter for a shelter animal who really needs you. Call our office at 973-248-8111 for more details on how to get started!

The name of our group course is “Yoga for Beginners” and it serves as an introduction to the practice of yoga. Spring 2010 – NJCPT is named Site of Clinical Excellence by Columbia University!
Columbia University, the fifth-oldest higher education institution in the United States, has named our organization the 2010 winner of the Site of Clinical Excellence Award! The New Jersey Center of Physical Therapy is the first outpatient orthopedic physical therapy facility to ever receive this award. Past recipients are some of the finest medical institutions on the East Coast and, some would argue, in the world! These include such highly regarded facilities as Columbia University Medical Center, New York Presbyterian Hospital, NYU-Rusk Institute, Mt. Sinai Medical Center, and NY Presbyterian-Cornell Medical Center.
The faculty at Columbia chose NJCPT for this award because of our high standards of personalized patient care, along with our involvement in the education of new physical therapists, and our constant advocacy for the profession of physical therapy. NJCPT was honored at the 2010 Columbia University graduation, where the 43 Doctor of Physical Therapy program graduates were inspired by our unique philosophies.
We would like to thank the faculty at Columbia University for this amazing honor, and we commit to continue delivering the same excellent care and superior results to all our patients!
If you would like to schedule an appointment for preventive care, a screening, or for help with an injury or any other physical challenge, please give us a call at 973-248-8111! We would love to hear from you.
April 2010 – NJCPT’s Dr. Ben Burton Receives UMDNJ’s Alumni Award!
The NJCPT team is proud to announce that our own Dr. Ben Burton, PT, DPT, OCS, SCS, ATC, CSCS has been chosen by the faculty of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey as their 2010 Alumni Award Recipient!
Recipients are selected for their dedication and exemplary contributions to the profession of physical therapy. This annual award is part of the convocation program that precedes graduation. Ben will be speaking to the graduates and their families about our practice, our customer service philosophies, our focus on Direct Access, and our many innovative, non-surgical, pain-free treatment systems that Ben has pioneered.
Recipients of UMDNJ’s Alumni Award are selected from over a thousand graduates of the Doctor of Physical Therapy program since its inception 30 years ago. Nancy Kirsch, Director of the Doctor of Physical Therapy program, said that Ben “represent[s] a proud tradition of clinicians who have made a significant impact on the practice of physical therapy.”
We would like to congratulate Ben on this achievement, and we are proud to carry on his tradition of excellent care and unparalleled results for our patients.
If you would like to schedule an appointment, please call us at 973-248-8111! We would be happy to help you.
New in 2010! – NJCPT partners with Pectus Services’ Joe Porcello in the treatment of Pectus Carinatum and Pectus Excavatum
In keeping with our goal of staying on the cutting edge of the newest techniques, we are now the first Pectus Treatment & Rehabilitation physical therapy facility in the country!
The terms Pectus Carinatum and Pectus Excavatum describe deformities of the chest wall or “Pectus”. Pectus Excavatum is more commonly known as “sunken chest,” and Pectus Carinatum is referred to as “protruding” or “pigeon chest.” These conditions are little-known by most in the medical field – in fact, for years, surgery was thought to be the only option to correct a Pectus defect. But Joe Porcello, ATC, has become a worldwide expert in non-surgical treatment for all Pectus deformities. He is the founder of Pectus Services, a company based solely on helping children and teens with these defects. Joe is also the creator of the T-Joe Pectus Bracing System, as well as the only comprehensive Pectus Improvement Program available.
The Pectus Services treatment philosophy states that improvement of a Pectus deformity involves more than just a brace. It includes several components: a thorough exam and diagnosis by a thoracic surgeon, and then a comprehensive improvement program of exercise and bracing is developed using their world-renowned “T-Joe” Pectus Bracing System. Joe provides one-on-one care for each child and great customer service from the very first phone call. Like Joe, we at NJCPT believe that in order to be effective healthcare providers, we need to focus on the whole patient and their entire experience, not just a specific body part or exercise.
Over the past few months, our providers have been training directly with “T-Joe” himself regarding Pectus and its effects on the body. We are proud to partner with Joe in the treatment of his patients. We share his passion for helping kids with Pectus attain outstanding results, as well as gain confidence and strength. We look forward to meeting more Pectus patients and helping them on their journey to better Pectus health!
If you or your child is affected by a Pectus condition, please call Pectus Services at 877-PECTUS-NO-MORE (877-732-8876), or visit them on the web at www.PectusServices.com!
If you are interested in continuing your T-Joe Pectus Improvement Program with us, including pre-surgery therapy before a Nuss procedure, or before bracing for Pectus Carinatum patients, please call us to set up an appointment at 973-248-8111!
March 2010 – NJCPT invites you to join us in celebrating the opening of the John Davis and Dr. M. Benjamin Burton Athletic Training & Sports Medicine Center at Montclair State University!
We would like to invite all our past and current patients, friends of the business, and everyone else who may wish to join us, to Montclair State University (MSU) to celebrate a special honor bestowed upon our own Dr. Ben Burton: MSU has chosen Ben as the namesake for their new athletic training center!
MSU approached Ben last year regarding this honor. Initially, he humbly turned them down. But then, the thought occurred to him that this would be a great opportunity to thank his ATC mentor John Davis by including John’s name! John has been an integral part of the Athletic Training department at MSU for the past 25 years, and is currently Head Athletic Trainer. He was one of the first to offer Ben great opportunity back when Ben was still a student. Ben remains grateful to John for his guidance over the years, and is looking forward to honoring his mentor in this meaningful way!
The Montclair State University Department of Athletics has opened their doors to all of us in celebration of the opening of the John Davis and Dr. M. Benjamin Burton Athletic Training & Sports Medicine Center, and in recognition of John’s and Ben’s many contributions to the ATC field over the years.
Please join our team for the dedication ceremony to congratulate Ben and John! Feel free to bring as many guests as you would like.
The ceremony will take place on March 28, 2010 from 2pm until 4pm, at MSU’s Panzer Athletic Center, 1 Normal Ave, Montclair, NJ 07043.
Please RSVP by March 24, 2010 to Randye Mitrani from the Montclair State Athletics Department at 973-655-5234, or via e-mail at mitranir@mail.montclair.edu. If you have any questions about the dedication ceremony Randye will be glad to answer them for you.
Montclair State University has the first Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training degree program in the state! If you are interested in pursuing your Athletic Training degree, please visit their website at http://www.montclair.edu/ATE to learn more!
Winter 2010 – NJCPT patients and associates work together to improve the lives of shelter animals

We at NJCPT are committed to giving back to those less fortunate than ourselves, especially homeless animals. This year we sponsored collections for the Bloomingdale Animal Shelter. Through the generosity of our patients and associates alike, we donated food, blankets, toys, treats, and paper supplies to help our furry friends.
Since we opened our practice, we have offered to sponsor pet adoptions for our patients and their family members. In keeping with our mission to help those who need it most, we will pay a generous portion of the adoption fee if your new pet is from a shelter or other rescue group. We have made six adoptions possible since the start of this program!
We are so pleased that this opportunity has recently helped to bring two new members to two of our amazing patients’ families! Jessica K. and family have happily adopted Maya, a sweet, playful, and intelligent Shiba Inu/ German Shepherd mix, who was rescued by Doggie Rescue from Tennessee and brought to the Pompton Lakes Animal Shelter to meet and fall in love with her new family. And Laura O. and family were so excited to bring home Kimmi, a Kentucky-born Beagle mix from Victory Animal Rescue.
We’d like to thank all of our wonderful patients who have selflessly done their part to help homeless animals find their own “forever home”!
If you are looking for a new pet, or wish to contribute something to the shelter, please call the Bloomingdale Animal Shelter at 973-838-2220, or visit them on the Web at http://www.bass.petfinder.com. Shelter adoption hours are Monday-Friday 4pm to 6pm, and Saturday & Sunday 2pm to 4pm.
If you are a current or past patient, and you would like to adopt a pet from an animal rescue group or shelter, please call our office at 973-248-8111 and we will be happy to assist you!
