Metabolic Rehabilitation

Metabolic Rehabilitation from Paramus Orthopedic Physical Therapy

What’s this?

Metabolism is the process by which your body uses “fuel” (like glucose) and turns it into energy for your muscles and other tissues. With Metabolic Rehabilitation, people with Diabetes can re-educate their bodies to utilize the excess glucose in their blood.

According to peer-reviewed studies, supervised programs like the one we offer are far more effective than programs that offer exercise counseling alone. We understand that simply managing your condition with just medication, or trying to attempt a lifestyle change on your own, can be a huge undertaking. Each person’s body has an optimal exercise level that enables them to control their glucose levels. It may be different for each person, and that’s why supervision by a Doctor of Physical Therapy is so important. Metabolic Rehabilitation can help people with Diabetes take control of their condition — without medication’s side effects, and with a trusted guide at your side.

Who can benefit from Metabolic Rehabilitation?

  • People who have been advised by their medical doctor to exercise and lose weight, but aren’t sure where to start
  • People who have Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes, who want to improve their energy levels and improve glycemic control
  • People who want to reduce their risk of diabetes-related complications
  • People who want to increase their energy levels, and feel stronger and better overall

What should I expect?

Our Doctors of Physical Therapy will work closely with your medical doctor and/or endocrinologist to monitor your numbers and track your progress.

Together, we’ll build you a comprehensive program designed to address your specific goals, challenges, and health situation. Our ultimate goal is for you to feel comfortable independently achieving success with your exercise routine, and for you to track the positive effects of exercise on your blood glucose levels.

We also have a Registered Dietitian who can help you reengineer your nutrition plan and enjoy eating better! Check out more on our Nutrition Program!
