Dr. Amanda Lee Montalvo is a born leader and innovator who uses her Doctoral-level knowledge of orthopedics and neurology to get her patients back to doing what they love. Amanda is particularly fascinated by the human brain, and has a special interest in stroke rehabilitation and helping people who are living with Parkinson’s disease. Dr. Montalvo prides herself on creatively offering each patient the fastest and most sustainable route toward recovery, and she promises to always go above and beyond to make each patient’s experience positive. She is following this passion further by pursuing Board Certifications in both Sports and Neurology, and she is currently a Certified Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) and certified in the Functional Movement Screen (FMSC).
Amanda earned her BSc in Movement Science from the University of Michigan, and after an invigorating experience as a rehabilitation aide at Staten Island University Hospital, she went on to earn her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) University. Dr. Montalvo was a pioneer of her inaugural class and garnered awards for Excellence in Leadership, Most Involved Graduate Student, and induction into the Alpha Eta National Allied Health Honor Society. She was also the founder of the first DPT student organization at MCPHS. And as a dedicated soccer player, she also co-captained the first MCPHS co-ed competitive soccer team! Dr. Montalvo was an instrumental part of a three-year clinical research project called “Protocol for Clinical Use of Mental Imagery to Improve Gait Post-Stroke,” to help people incorporate positive visualization and mental imagery to improve their walking abilities after strokes.
Amanda is a big movie buff who enjoys everything from Disney classics to superhero thrillers. When she’s not watching the latest movie, you’ll probably find her nose buried in a book about mythical creatures or fantasy! As a lifelong resident of Staten Island, NY, Amanda loves to experience all that New York has to offer — museums, art galleries, music festivals in the park, and seeing Broadway shows are just some of her favorite weekend activities! Even a New York native can still appreciate new things about her home state, and Amanda can’t wait to hear about your favorite NYC discoveries!
